Xavier Horkman

Xavier Horkman is a member of the Oneida Nation. He was raised and still currently resides on the Oneida Nation Reservation. He is a photographer who primarily works with film, a writer, a podcast host, and a musician under the name Ace Strawberry, all of which bears witness to life through the lens of storytelling.

Throughout his artistic pursuits, much of his output has centered around the advocacy of a variety of social aspects he holds deep passion for, from environmentalism to Indigenous culture. He has contributed to grassroots efforts and been accepted into exhibits with longstanding tradition. He is proud to continue his family's legacy as a 4th Generation artist of the Hill/House family.

Incorporating film photography into my artistic journey has added new flavors to my expressions. As a photographer who sharpened my teeth in the digital realm, I only vaguely remember film in the mainstream, as it slowly lost momentum during my childhood.

The deliberate act of film photography has given me a renewed sense of patience, a revived appreciation for the splendor of the ordinary, and a fulfilling mental spotlight on attention to detail.
