Tom Leininger

Tom Leininger is a photographer and educator in Appleton, Wisconsin, and teaches art at the University of Wisconsin—Oshkosh. He was born in California, raised in upstate New York, educated in the Midwest and Texas. The bulk of his professional newspaper career was spent grinding it out every day at Indiana newspapers. His current photographic interests lie within contemporary suburban life and a notion of home.

New Domestic grew out of typical tasks around the house and assumptions of still life photographs. The staged scenes are composed while completing a chore and lit for dramatic effect. The pictures challenge the monotony of suburban life and the idea of traditional gendered roles within the home. The photographs are elevating household routines and projects into dramatic memories.
